Abstract
The Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) Practical Nursing (PN) Final Examination
is a comprehensive standardized assessment that evaluates the clinical competency of
practical nursing students across a broad spectrum of medical-surgical concepts. This review
paper systematically examines the core content domains tested on the 2026–2027 HESI PN
Final Examination, including cardiovascular disorders, respiratory conditions, endocrine
pathologies, neurological diseases, and gastrointestinal system management. By
synthesizing current evidence-based nursing guidelines, standardized test blueprints, and
clinical best practices, this paper aims to provide a structured academic framework that
supports student preparation for the examination. The review identifies priority nursing
interventions, patient safety considerations, and pharmacological management strategies that
are consistently emphasized in the examination framework. Findings suggest that a systems-
based approach to content review, combined with active recall and clinical reasoning
exercises, significantly enhances examination readiness and long-term knowledge retention
among practical nursing students.
