How cereals, sugars, fruits, and vegetables are grown
o Food is grown in an environment where light, food (soil) and water are available.
o Methods: Polytunnels (using large plasnc tunnels to grow crops to protect from
weather, e.g. carrots and strawberries), hydroponics (using water instead of soil to
grow plants e.g. tomatoes, pepper, cucumbers, and le{ers)

- Grown in the northern hemisphere
- Contributes about 20% of the world’s sugar
Honey - A natural sweetener produced by bees from the nectar of plants
- Flavour varies, depends on the type of flowers the nectar are from
Maple syrup - Made from plant juices (sap) or maple trees
- Has a very disnnct flavour; very sweet
