I. PICOT Question
The picot question that was selected for this paper is, “in critically ill patients with
cardiovascular disorders (P), can the use of chlorhexidine (I) as compared to soap and water
(C) in the management of catheter insertion sites reduce the risk of developing CLABSIs (O)
after two days (T)?” The study will be performed using elderly patients suffering from
cardiovascular disorders as the participants. The participants will be allocated to two groups. In
the control group, the catheter insertions sites of the participants will be cleaned using 2%
chlorhexidine. In the control group, which will act as the comparison group, the catheter
insertion sites will be cleaned with soap and water. Time is an appropriate factor for the picot
question since the risk of developing CLBASIs increases after significantly for patients whose
catheters have remained in place for over two days.
