• Beginning the week of February 5th students are required to bring a laptop computer to each lab
session
• The Lab Safety Quiz and Lab Policy Quiz posted on HuskyCT must be completed (score
must be 100 on both) by the start of lab the week of January 29th or you will not be permitted
to participate in lab! If you cannot participate in lab, you will receive a score of "0" for the
Biochemistry Basics lab report. Participation in lab will not be permitted until these quizzes are
successfully completed (score must be 100 and multiple attempts are permitted).
II. CHECK-LIST OF ITEMS THAT MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR
TO ATTENDING EACH LAB

□ Watch the prelab videos posted on HuskyCT

III. LABORATORY GRADING POLICY
Teaching Assistants are required to post all laboratory grades on HuskyCT. The laboratory portion
of MCB 2000 accounts for 25% of the total course grade. A uniform policy governs grading in all
laboratory sections, as follows:
45% - Laboratory Exercises
The grade for each laboratory exercise will include a laboratory report and an
assessment of your performance in the lab (participation points). The laboratory
report includes:
► The “Lab Report Notebook” pages from the Laboratory Manual
-i-
, ► Calculations, graphs, and figures
► An "Analysis / Interpretation of Data" section (must be submitted on HuskyCT
in pdf format) in the format of :
1. A brief Discussion (paragraph format) analyzing/interpreting all of the
experimental results (950 words maximum, Times New Roman 12pt font,
double spaced, 1 inch margins) - for the following labs - BuPers,
Kinetics, and AAnity Chromatography. The final paragraph should
present an example of a clinical significance regarding some aspect of the
lab.
-or-
2. Concluding statements (present as numbered list). The number of
Concluding Statements required is dependent on the specific lab (follow
the Laboratory Report Guidelines for each lab). All but one of the
Concluding Statements must analyze/interpret the experimental results
(these will be specified) and one of the Concluding Statements must give
an example of
a clinical significance of some aspect of the experiment. Each Concluding
Statement must not exceed six sentences (Times New Roman 12pt font,
double spaced, 1 inch margins)
Please Note: Resubmissions will not be permitted. It is the students
responsibility to make sure the document is submitted properly on
HuskyCT in the correct format. If a "Blank" document is submitted,
that is what will be graded! TA's will NOT be clearing attempts!
Prior to attending lab, students are responsible for reading the laboratory
exercise, watching the videos posted on HuskyCT, and taking the prelab quiz
posted on HuskyCT. Successful performance in this laboratory course includes
advance preparation (watching videos posted on HuskyCT prior to coming to
lab), cooperation with peers, and maintenance of equipment. Therefore, a
portion of the lab grade will be based on participation, proper use of lab
equipment, punctuality, and cleanliness. If you are unsure of how to use a piece
of equipment, ASK! Attendance and participation in the laboratory constitutes
10% of the total Laboratory Exercise grade and the lab report constitutes the
remaining 90%.
Laboratory reports must be submitted on HuskyCT directly by the beginning of
your lab section the following week (please refer to the Laboratory Schedule for
Due Dates). Laboratory reports may not be e-mailed to your TA! If you are late
for lab, 50 participation points will be deducted. If your TA is unable to read
any of the Laboratory Assignment, it will not be graded!
20% - Weekly Laboratory Quizzes (taken in lab)
► Quizzes:
There will be a quiz each week (9 total) in lab (starting the week of the Buffers and pH lab)
and students will be given 10 minutes to complete the quiz. If you arrive to lab late and
the quiz has already been collected, you will not be permitted to take the quiz. If you
arrive to lab late and the quiz is still in progress, you may take the quiz in the given
amount of time remaining. For example, if you arrive to lab late and the quiz has been
in progress for 3 minutes, you would only have 7 minutes to complete the quiz. These
will include written quizzes as well as quizzes testing your ability to carry out specific
