A narrative text is a type of text that serves to entertain or delight readers or
listeners with a story. This text usually uses sentences in the past tense.
The general structure of a narrative text is:
1. Orientation: This section introduces the characters, setting and time of the story.
It usually answers the questions who, when and where.
2. Complication or problem: This section describes the problem in the story and how
it is resolved.
3. Resolution: This section shows how the problem is resolved.
4. Reorientation: This section presents the conclusion of the story.
Kind of Narrative Text
A. Fable
A fable is a type of fictional story featuring animals, mythical creatures, plants,
inanimate objects or forces of nature that can speak like humans, and which
contains a moral message or lesson.
B. Legend
A legend is a type of folk tale that originates from the past and is believed by the
community to be a true story, even though its veracity cannot always be proven.
Legends typically revolve around the origins of a place, a name, an event, or a
figure, and often contain historical and cultural elements as well as moral lessons
passed down from generation to generation.
C. Fairytale
A fairy tale is a type of fictional story filled with magical elements or wonders, such
as witches, fairies, giants, and other magical creatures. Fairy tales usually begin
with "Once upon a time..." and have a happy ending. These stories aim to entertain
readers while also conveying a moral lesson.
