Unit 4: Assignment 1 - Laboratory Techniques and their Applications
Unit 4: Assignment 1 - Laboratory Techniques and their Applications Introduction: I was working as part of a team of government health and safety inspectors. My team leader allocated the team to visit a range of different science organisations and produce a report on the health and safety practices within these organisations. I selected Uxbridge College.I produced a report that provides information on how the college was following relevant health and safety legislation as well as describing the hazards present and how health and safety is managed and compared it to a microbiology lab. The main activities in the Uxbridge College science labs were different tests and practicals carried out by the students and prepared by the technicians. In microbiology labs activities such as culturing clinical specimens, including feces, urine, blood, bodily fluids and infected tissues were studied on. The work here is mainly concerned with cultures, to look for suspected pathogens which, if found, are further identified based on biochemical tests. Moreover, tests were carried out to check if the sample to be researched has any resistance to any medication.
