initiate into the world of art
to study a piece of art from the POV of formal
elements (colour, line, form) & principles
(balance, proportion, perspectives).
point out various functions art has served
through the ages in different geographical &
socio-cultral context.
to view art as a vissual language/vocabulary,
for the communication of ideas, motives,
feelings, actions & techniques.
examine what art is & understand what is
meant by the notion of an artist.
,03 Prehistoric Art
ANCIENT WORLD
1. Magico-religious basis of art
2. Making images can also be a way of
contriving a sense of power in hostile
surroundings.
3. Some scripts & literature haven't
been yet deciphered, like Indus
Valley,. We only have the information
from their art, architecture, their
artefacts.
4. No artsist in pre-history, as
everything was done just for thr sake
of doing it, huts were made to live,
pots to store, cattles decorated coz
they had to.
CLASSICAL
The human body was seen as the
embodiment of everything noble-godlike
or primary-with no imperfection.
