She was an actress and a writer and started her career at an early age of 15 in the Broadway show Irene. Her most famous role that made Fisher rise to stardom was as princess Leia for films The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983). Her struggles with alcohol, drugs and depression started around the same time as she became more recognized and popular in the film industry. Fisher was always open about talking about her drug addiction and bipolar disorder.
