PS360 W6A PS360 Psychotic Disorders: Schizophrenia Grantham University Stage of Schizophrenia There are four stages of schizophrenia that people will “ but not always, progress through. The first stage, which can last days, weeks, months or years, is the prodromal phase. This phase is marked by peculiar behavior like odd or withdrawn social interactions, memory problems or disturbances in speech and thought processes, and negative symptoms. This phase can resemble depression. The next stage is the psychotic prephase. This is when the first œpositive symptoms of schizophrenia will appear “ such as hallucinations or delusions. There may be a stressor to trigger the psychotic prephase. This prephase will often last less than two months. To be diagnosed with schizophrenia, symptoms must last at least 6 months. This six-month period would include at least a month in which symptoms are acute. T
