The first stage, which can last days, weeks, months or years, is the prodromal phase. This phase is marked by peculiar behavior like odd or withdrawn social interactions, memory problems or disturbances in speech and thought processes, and negative symptoms. This phase can resemble depression. The next stage is the psychotic prephase. This is when the first œpositive symptoms of schizophrenia will appear “ such as hallucinations or delusions.
