Levels of Organizational Complexity -Subatomic particles - protons, neutrons, electrons (non-living).
-Atoms - chemical building blocks (C, H, O, N, Ca, Na).
-Biological molecules (macromolecules) - proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic
acids (non-living, but essential for life).
-Organelles - specialized structures inside cells (nucleus, mitochondria).
-Cells - the smallest living unit in the human body.
-Tissues - groups of cells with similar structure/function (e.g., muscle tissue).
-Organs - structures made of ≥2 tissues working together (e.g., heart, stomach).
-Organ systems - groups of organs with shared function (e.g., cardiovascular
system).
-Organism - the whole human body.

Smallest Living Entity The cell is the smallest living unit in the human body.

How Many Cells in the Human Body? About 30-37 trillion cells.

Four Classes of Biological Molecules -Carbohydrates - sugars, energy storage (e.g., glucose, glycogen).
-Lipids - fats, phospholipids, steroids (e.g., triglycerides, cholesterol).
-Proteins - amino acid polymers (e.g., enzymes, collagen).
-Nucleic acids - genetic info (DNA, RNA).

Four Major Tissue Types -Epithelial tissue - covers surfaces, lines cavities, forms glands.
-Connective tissue - supports, binds, protects (bone, blood, cartilage).
-Muscle tissue - movement (skeletal, cardiac, smooth).
-Nervous tissue - communication, control (neurons + glial cells).
