, CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Corporate social responsibility is a nation that business has obligations to
society beyond the pursuit of profits.
There is a widespread assumption these days that CSR is both a moral both
imperative for business and a good thing for society.
PERSPECTIVE ON CORPORATIVE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
“Social Responsibility” certainly
sounds admirable, but it’s not always clear which segments of society it involves or what those
responsibilities are.
Approaches to CSR can be roughly categorized into four perspectives:
1. MINIMALIST CSR
2. DEFENSIVE CSR
3. CYNICAL CSR
4. PROACTIVE CSR
MINIMALIST CSR:
In minimalist approach to CSR companies do not have social responsibilities
beyond earning money and obeying the law. This might include philanthropic gestures,
superficial environmental initiatives, or limited community engagement efforts, aiming to fulfill
CSR expectations with minimal investment rather than making comprehensive changes to
business practices.
They are several reasons why a company might choose to adopt a minimalist CSR.
LIMITED RESOURCES:
Smaller companies or these in nighty competitive markets may
have limited financial or human resources to dedicate to social good initiatives.
Focus on core business:
Some companies believe that their primary responsibility is to
their shares holders and that they should focus on generating profits rather than social
good.
Strategic impact:
Minimalist CSR can be a way to focus on specific social issues that are
most relevant to the company business and shares holders.
