• The purpose is to visualize and highlight the
abnormal conditions in the system
• Two main elements
- Stop and notify of abnormalities
• Only products satisfying quality standards will be passed on
to the next process
- Separate man's work & machine's work
• Since a machine automatically stops when problems occur,
each operator can continue working on another machine
without worrying the first machine
• Each operator can take charge of many machines and hence
the productivity is improved
