Introduction
These revision checklists list the things you should be able to do for each topic which is
examined in AQA A Level Chemistry Paper 2.
You could use the checklists in the following ways:
• Revision to-do list: Use the checklists alongside your usual revision methods to
ensure that you have covered everything. Simply place a tick in a ‘Revised’ column
each time you have revised a part of a topic described on the checklists.
• RAG: After revising a topic for the first time, colour the first ‘Revised’ column of the
checklist in red, amber or green to identify your level of confidence in that area.
This will help you to prioritise your revision in the future. You will need to spend
more time revising the parts of the topic you identified as red or amber. After more
revision, colour the second ‘Revised’ column. You should see fewer red and amber
and more green areas each time you revisit the checklists.
• Use the space at the bottom of each page for any notes which will be helpful to you
when revising each topic.
Revision Methods
There are many different ways to revise and some methods work better for some people
than others. In general, the most effective revision involves active processes where you
are doing something with the information, rather than simply reading or listening to
information.
Here are some suggested revision activities:
• Rewrite your class notes from memory. Make sure you compare your notes with the
original ones. Have you missed anything?
• Flashcards – write a set of quick-fire questions for a particular topic and test yourself
or ask a friend to test you.
• Create a mind map.
• Create a topic summary sheet.
• Practise exam questions and check your answers with a mark scheme.

define relative atomic mass (Ar).
define relative molecular mass (Mr).
carry out calculations using the Avogadro constant.
carry out calculations using mass of substance, Mr, and
amount in moles.
carry out calculations using concentration, volume and
amount of substance in a solution.
use the ideal gas equation in calculations.
calculate empirical formula from data giving
composition by mass or percentage by mass.
calculate molecular formula from the empirical formula
and relative molecular mass.
write balanced equations for the reactions studied.
balance equations for unfamiliar reactions when
reactants and products are specified.
use balanced equations to calculate; masses;
volumes of gases; percentage yields; percentage atom
economies; concentrations and volumes for reactions
in solutions.
(Required Practical 1)
describe how to make up a volumetric solution and
