Cyber Security in the Government Sector
It is important for governments to be able to identify and prevent malicious
cyber activity to secure critical infrastructure. They identify cyber vulnerabilities
through cyber security. “Cyber security is the practice of defending computers,
servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from malicious
attacks. It's also known as information technology security or electronic information
security” (“What Is Cyber
Security,” n.d.). The Canadian
government, in particular, has
recently been experiencing cyber
threat activity in all three levels of
government: provincial,
municipal, and federal. Figure 1. Cyber Security for Employees (“What is cyber security,” n.d.)
Provincial Government’s Actions Against Cyber Attacks
Provincial governments need to finalize cybersecurity regulations and risk
assessment measures for the employees who are forced to work remotely during
this pandemic. However, according to the audit conducted it was found that
provincial governments are not keeping up with the dynamic situation (PR Newswire
Association LLC., 2020). As a matter of fact, "the audit finds that 10 provincial
government departments, nine public service units, and 19 government
organizations have not completed fraud risk assessments" (PR Newswire

the employees are working in. Also, if we talk specifically about Service Nova Scotia

services is falling behind on finalizing the regulations in respect of cybersecurity (PR
