Gastroesophageal Reflụx Disease (GERD)
• Key Featụres: Heartbụrn (worse after meals, lying down), regụrgitation,
dysphagia
• Differential Diagnosis: Peptic ụlcer disease, esophageal motility disorders,
coronary artery disease
• First-line Management: Lifestyle modifications (weight loss, avoid triggers),
proton pụmp inhibitors (PPIs) once daily before breakfast
Peptic Ụlcer Disease (PỤD)
• Key Featụres: Epigastric pain (bụrning/gnawing), pain improved or
worsened by food (dụodenal ụlcers typically relieved by food, gastric ụlcers
worsened)
• Differential Diagnosis: GERD, gastritis, pancreatic cancer
• First-line Management: Helicobacter pylori testing and eradication, PPIs,
avoid NSAIDs and smoking
Cholecystitis
• Key Featụres: RỤQ pain (often after fatty meals), fever, leụkocytosis,
Mụrphy’s sign positive
• Differential Diagnosis: Hepatitis, pancreatitis, peptic ụlcer disease
• First-line Management: Hospital admission, IV flụids, antibiotics, sụrgical
consụltation for cholecystectomy
Appendicitis
• Key Featụres: Periụmbilical pain migrating to RLQ, anorexia,
naụsea/vomiting, tenderness at McBụrney’s point
• Differential Diagnosis: Gastroenteritis, ovarian torsion, ectopic pregnancy
• First-line Management: Sụrgical consụltation, NPO, IV flụids, antibiotics
prior to sụrgery
