The accident that changed our lives
It was a tempestuous night when we were making our way back home
from our holiday in France. We were driving on the high way. The
enormous amount of rain that was falling down almost caused the cars to
spin. I was awake. My brother was comfortably resting his head on my
shoulder. The radio was playing a song which my mother apparently knew
the lyrics from, she was humming the song. I thought about all the things
we did this holiday, and all the people I met. I thought about Zack. The boy
that I had a crush on since he walked out of the sea, with his magnificent,
wavy, brown hair. It felt like he was my soulmate, the person I could tell
every little thing that was rushing through my mind, the person who I
could spend the rest of my life with. Today was probably the last day that I
spend with him. While thinking about him, I felt a tear rolling down my
cheek, I wiped it away before anybody noticed it being there.
I noticed that the wind was getting more boisterous and I felt that my
father had been getting trouble controlling the wheels. I fastened my
seatbelt to reassure my safety. Then suddenly there was one massive
wind gust which caused the car to spin. My father let go of the steering-
wheel and that’s when I felt like time stood still. At that moment all the
blood in my brain disappeared, it felt like I was going to faint. The seat
belt, tight and stuck, was the only support for me. Heavy smoke and
polluted air filled the car and blinded me. And that’s when I realised that
our car had ran into the guard rail. I panicked, our car was on fire! I felt
queer. I ripped my seat belt off and jumped onto to the hot surface. The
pain should’ve been ridiculous but somehow the adrenaline made me
unable to feel the pain. I noticed that I was breathing heavily. As soon as I
was able to breathe regularly I stood up, hobbled to the car and looked at
it: I could see three vague silhouettes, all of those three were not moving.
The only thing that was going through my mind was whether my family
was still alive or not. They could not be death, they meant everything to
me. I heard that I was breathing louder and everything was spinning
around. I saw blue and red lights, were those ambulances? I wasn’t feeling
well and I began to descend to the ground. I heard a man screaming, not
being able to recognise any words. For a very little amount of time I
thought that this was all a dream, not much later I blacked out.
I started to see a peculiar light, I felt like I was waking up. When I was
really waking up I instantly noticed where I was. I was at the intensive care
in a hospital, I was feeling sick but I could not guess what I was suffering
from. Only one day later it got to my head that I’ve been in a coma for five
weeks. Instead of it being 5 weeks, it felt like it was only one night since
the accident happened. I saw a big scar on my left upper leg. A lady
walked into the room and I didn’t know who she was. She started to ask
me a lot of question which I could barely answer because of all the
anaesthesia. After ten minutes I became aware of the fact that the woman
