, General Plan
This plan will utilize the use of mesh topology, the reason behind this is that this
topology is ideal for a university campus where reliability and continuous access to
resources are critical. Each building will be connected to at least two ithers and the data
can reroute automatically if one link fails worst case scenario. Also, it will support an
exceptionally high availability and reliability of connection. To minimize threats and
protect network resources, the goal is to utilize both hardware and software controls.
Firstly, hardware controls, Enterprise-grade routers with built-in firewall capabilities to
filter traffic and managed switches for the control of data flow and prevent unauthorized
access.
The servers are housed in a secure server room with restricted physical access.
Secondly, let’s look at the software controls, Network Operating System (Windows
Server 2022) will be used for centralized management. Furthermore, the use of user
authentication using usernames and passwords (Active Directory) and firewall rules and
access control lists (ACLs) to restrict unauthorized traffic. Antivirus and endpoint
protection software installed on all computers will be implemented alongside regular
system updates and patches to address vulnerabilities. To promote fast, reliable
connectivity and centralized Management; the use of the following includes:
Fiber optic cables: will be used between buildings to provide high-speed, low-latency
connections.
Cat6 Ethernet cables: will connect end devices within buildings.
Mesh topology: It ensures redundancy and minimizes downtime.
