5 Stappen van EBP volgens Sacket:
1. Een klinisch probleem over diagnose, prognose en therapie vertalen in een
beantwoordbare vraag (PICO)
2. Zoekstrategie bepalen en selecteren van relevante bronnen
3. Appraise: het beoordelen van het gevonden bewijsmateriaal op methodologische
kwaliteit (hoe hoog is de evidentie, betrouwbaarheid?)
4. Conclusie formuleren en de resultaten toepassen in het dagelijks klinisch handelen
5. Het regelmatig evalueren van het klinisch handelen (proces en resultaten)

Waar staan de letters PICO voor?
P = Patient/probleem
I = Interventie
C = Vergelijking
O = Outcome

4 Verschillende soorten informatiebronnen voor EBP:
- Literatuur (boeken)
- Professionals (eigen ervaring, levert 1 gezichtspunt op)
- Databanken (hoogst evidentie, hoge goede kwaliteit artikelen)
- Richtlijnen (zoals KNFG) (vaak wat ouder, maar wel hoge evidentie)
