, Carroll’s Pyramid about Corporate Social Responsibility shows different types of responsibilities
that companies can have with regard to CSR.
Question 1.
Give an example how a tourism organization can focus on CSR, describe the CSR action(s)
that they can do and connect the CSR action(s) to one of the responsibilities of Carroll’s
Pyramid. Explain why, in your eyes, this action is connected to that specific responsibility.
Note: to answer this question you may use a specific tourism organization that you are familiar
with.
(4 points for the CSR example- 2 points for the correct link with pyramid and 4 points for the
explanation of the linkage with the pyramid – 10 points)
A tourism organization can focus on CSR by involving active contribution to the community and
improving people’s quality of life. The organization can for example fund local projects or help
local schools. This can be connected to Philanthropic responsibilities, which is designed to do
good to others, including spending money on good causes. If, for example, the tourism
organization could donate a part of the profit, parents who cannot pay the school fees
themselves still get the change to send their children to school. This will contribute to the
children’s quality of life. More children are being educated and therefore have a greater job
opportunity in the future.
