M4: Journal Reflections
Journal Reflection #1
It is hard to pinpoint exactly what everyone deems as the ‘good life’ because everyone
has their own opinion. However, I feel that today’s commonly held perspectives would lean
towards viewing the good life in a materialistic way. How much money you have and how nice
your possessions are, equates to how ‘good’ your life is. I feel like many people have the vice of
envying what other people have and feel the need to level up. These ideas come from social
media like Facebook, Instagram and even Pinterest. People that watch reality TV and read
gossipy magazines also see things that they begin to desire. In this culture, having a good life
means having the means to do and get what you want. It all seems to come down to money.
The more you have, the more comfortably you can live the ‘good life’.
Journal Reflection #2
In my current state of life, I feel like I am aligning most closely with the hedonistic life,
although that is not where I started or want to continue my life with. I used to be a 2 nd grade
teacher and now am a stay at home mom and spend most of my time enjoying life with my
family. Now that I have decided to switch to a nursing career, I am hoping that I will once again
encompass the political and the philosophical life as well. I will care for my patients and be a
continuous learner.
The political life could be religious leaders who live to serve and help others. People that
