PASSIVE VOICE
ACTIVE TO PASSIVE
• The passive voice is used to emphasize the action, with transitive verbs (taka an object)

• The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence
• Verb: To be (same tense) + Past participle
• The subject of the active sentence becomes the agent of the passive sentence, at the end of the sentence
and preceded by the preposition “by”, only when it gives important information
PASSIVE WITH TWO OBJECTS
• Passive sentence with the indirect object as the subject
• Passive sentence with the direct object as the subject, so it’s necessary the preposition “to” before the
indirect object
IMPERSONAL PASSIVE
• Verbs: say, think, believe, know, expect, suppose, consider, report, claim, acknowledge

• It + To be (same tense) + Past participle + (That) …
• Passive sentence with the subject of the main sentence (after that) + To be (same tense) + Past participle
+ To + Infinitive (active verb (after that) is in present or future)
• Passive sentence with the subject of the main sentence (after that) + To be (same tense) + Past participle
+ To have + Past participle (active verb (after that) is in past or perfect)
THE CAUSATIVE (GET/HAVE SOMETHING DONE)
• It is used when someone does something to me or for me
• Get/Have (same tense) + Object + Past participle
