Evolution of horse
The evolution of the horse is a classic example of adaptive evolution. Horses evolved over millions of years from small forest-dwelling ancestors into large, fast-running animals adapted to open grasslands. Fossil evidence shows a gradual increase in body size, longer and stronger legs, reduction in the number of toes, and the development of grazing teeth. The main stages of horse evolution are Eohippus, Mesohippus, Merychippus, Pliohippus, Equus, and the modern horse. These changes occurred due to adaptation and natural selection, helping horses survive in changing environments.
