Cambridge AS and Alevel (CIE) Computer Science (9618) Paper 1 Chapter Summary Notes (Chapter 1 to 8 - Theory)
This is a summary of chapter 1-8 of the Cambridge As Level Computer Science (9618) syllabus, written before as exam preparation for the AS level Computer Science Paper 1 component (comp. 12, taken in the October/November 2025 series, which resulted in an A (a) grade for the whole Computer Science AS Level series (P12, 22), with a 90 PUM). Chapters covered in this set of notes include: - Ch. 1: Information Representation & Multimedia - Ch. 2: Communication - Ch. 3: Hardware - Ch. 4: Processor Fundamentals - Ch. 5: System Software - Ch. 6: Security, Privacy and Data Integrity - Ch. 7: Ethics and Ownership -Ch. 8: Databases The content of each chapter in these sets of notes was a combination of topics that are easily tested/understandable (“bonus”), topics that frequently come out and are hence covered, and potential topics that may come out. The content was also influenced a bit by questions that came out in my school’s chapter tests, Mock exams and Preliminary exams (prelims). Hence, there may be topics that may not be fully covered in these notes or are briefly touched upon, so it is advised to review these alongside one’s other revision materials (textbooks, notes, PYPs, etc.) Due to limited space (and time) at the time of writing these notes, most terms/ words may be acronymed (eg: conv. = convert), but I hope they are still understandable depending on the context it is in. Hope these notes help, all the best and good luck for your exams! - Paris
