A. Need for Change
The company is in the Growth-to-Maturity stage of the
Organizational Life Cycle but still acting like a small, early-stage
business. This company has leapt from $1 million in sales to $100
million, and it now has 500 employees working across multiple
countries. That sort of size and complexity typically demands
better systems, stronger communication, and more developed
leadership practices from a company. However, the company is
still operating with a very top-down approach, antiquated
inventory systems, and almost no training or development for
employees. All that may fly when you are a smaller company, but
once you reach a certain point in growth, that's not going to work.
Despite the company's evident maturity, its internal operations
and culture have not been kept up. It is precisely the gap between
where the company is and how it continues to operate that makes
change so consequential at this moment.
B. Organizational Differences
