It is important for an expectant mother to recognize the importance of mental and physical
wellbeing during pregnancy. Many women are oblivious of, and who are not given truthful data
about, the possible effects of their everyday routine on their baby while it is still in the womb,
or even after delivery; these dangers are referred to as "teratogens." A teratogen is a substance
that can induce birth defects or change cognitive and behavioral outcomes (Santrock 2019).
Substances like street drugs, liquor, or even certain prescription painkillers can damage the fetus
if they are introduced into the bloodstream of a pregnant woman. Fetal alcohol disease is one of
these dangers, but it is not the only one. Fetal alcohol syndrome, sudden infant death syndrome,
facial deformities, and limb and heart defects are only a few of the dangers. As a result, it's
important that Claudia receives accurate details and knows the risks of drinking two glasses of
wine every night while pregnant to her fetus.
Claudia is in her second trimester at 4-months fetal development; at this point in her
pregnancy, the fetus can regulate breathing, has a pulse, and, most notably, the neural network
is already forming. Consequently, any level of drinking consumed during these stages of
growth puts her fetus at risk for FASD. Fetal alcohol syndrome is a disorder that occurs in
infants as a result of alcohol ingestion during infancy. Bad mobility or balance, learning
disability or impaired growth, poor memory, poor judgment skills, and trouble understanding
and problem- solving are all symptoms of this disorder.
