Privacy is important when it comes to social media. The whole world uses some form of
social media to give immediate family, friends, or acquaintances updates on their life. Not
always is social media so private, often it can lead to negative impacts. Here in Chicago, social
media is detrimental to many people because it often gives whereabouts, updates and it can lead
to consequences. Such consequences can be murder, being arrested for possession of drugs and
guns, or even stalkers. A lot of relationships also fail because of social media, meaning business
opportunities, intimate partners, or even family members. I often live life by stating to myself
that if I post anything, know that any and every one can access it, so I remind myself to be
mindful and post only what I want people to know.
Self-disclosures are a good form of communication when it comes to expressing
thoughts, feelings, or dreams one may have. Although it is great to express them, it can be too
much when it comes to social media. Not everyone is a friend to you and expressing such
emotions can lead to becoming too vulnerable to some that do not care. Often many people
express what they feel on social media and become bullied or mocked for their thoughts,
opinions, or feelings. Social media is one of the many reasons people commit suicide, often
because people overly disclose themselves and other poke fun or mock them increasing
depression. No one needs validation, approval, or happiness from others through an online
screen, search within and it is all a person will ever need.
Ethics plays a major role in social media because a person can expose their morals to
others who simply agree or disagree. Often ethics can become lost in the social media world. I
