Running head: CASE STUDY: 7 YEAR-OLD WITH OTITIS MEDIA AND 1 Case Study: 7 year-old with Otitis Media and Viral Pharyngitis NURS 532: Primary Care of Women and Children CASE STUDY: 7 YEAR-OLD WITH OTITIS MEDIA 2 7 year-old with Otitis Media and Viral Pharyngitis Chief Complaint: Left ear pain and sore throat History of Present Illness (HPI): This is a case of a 7 year-old Hispanic female who was accompanied to the clinic by her mother due to a “7/10 left ear pain, sore throat, and runny nose for the past three days.” She describes her left ear pain as “a clogged, heavy, and on-going pain.” Prior to the onset of her condition, she was at the beach with her family and admitted to “water getting into her left ear and has been harder to hear.” The mother admits to her daughter experiencing a fever of 101.2 and chills two days ago. The patient admits to feeling tired with a loss of appetite and states “it hurts to swallow and my throat feels swollen.” Although she admits to feeling fatigued, she is still able to carry out her normal daily functions. She denies any cough with phlegm, loss of weight, headache, blurred vision, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, hematemesis, or hemotachezia.
