EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2.1 KEY ACTIVITY The key activities of the business are to offer consultation, design, construction, installation and maintenance services for solar powered cold rooms to farmers and fresh produce suppliers. 2.1 KEY PARTNERS The key partners to Miale cold rooms solutions firm will be Horticulture farmers and Floriculture farmers both large and small scale farmers requiring cold storage systems for their produce. Local fresh produce markets– the business is to provide cold storage system to the highly perishable goods in the local markets warehouses these will be achieved by working alongside the county governments and the business communities. Fresh produce suppliers – the business is to help most of the suppliers in establishing thermal controlled warehouses to increase the shelf life of the produce and ensure consistency in their supply thus increased returns. The business is to ensure that quality produce reach the consumers. Equity bank- the bank is the main financier of the business. All financial transactions are to be carried out through the bank. This will help in ensuring accountability for the business. Suppliers of equipment -these include the refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, the insulation materials the solar panels and collectors, the cold rooms panels and the office equipment. 2.2 KEY RESOURCES The following resources will be needed to help in achieving the mission and vision of business; Refrigeration and air-conditioning components such as the evaporators, condensers, generators/compressors, absorbers, expansion valves, filters, refrigerants, temperature sensors and refrigerant pipes. Pipework Insulating materials and machine. Cold rooms insulated panels. Solar collectors and panels. Workshop machinery required for fabrication of the components. Skilled labor such as technicians, drivers, accountants, security guards, planners, clerks, marketers and cleaners. Service van for transporting the technicians and required materials to the site. Office equipment such as electronics, furniture, files and papers. 2.3 OFFERS AND CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP To attract customers and maintain them, the business will offer the following: Free maintenance services during the period of 12 months after installation. Free virtual customer consultation services through our website, email and social media platforms. A 10 % discount on design and installation services will be given to new customers. Free interior design of the cold room to ensure space optimization of the cold room. Better pricing of our maintenance services to our clients and on time delivery of the services. Free training to our client’s cold rooms operators at the field by our technicians. 2.4 CUSTOMER SEGMENT Horticulture farmers in rural areas- the business is to help them reduce post-harvest losses by providing affordable storage solutions. Large scale floriculture farmers in Nyandarua and Naivasha- the business is to offer cheaper cold storage systems for the flowers compared to the current systems to cut on their preservation cost. Local fresh produce markets in the country – most of the warehouses in these markets lack proper refrigeration and air conditionining facilities for highly perishable produce leading to high losses. The business is to provide a solution to this problem. Residents in hot areas such as Kisumu, Mombasa, Turkana- the business will offer affordable solar powered air conditioning services to buildings in these regions. 2.5 CHANNELS Direct sales method involving personal visits, mail order and online solicitation such as newsletters and email subscription. Virtual Service Distribution for example, a sales consultant will offer his services through a combination of phone, email, or video conferences that would make use of software available on cloud platforms. Agents or Referrals, this is to be achieved by having agents in different parts of the country to create awareness of the cold storage facilities offered by the business to the targeted customers. Distribution Through Publication in print media and online platforms also advertising in the media. 2.6 COST STRUCTURE The business will incur the following cost in setting up and operating it. Marketing and advertising cost. Labor costs -through wages and commissions paid to the employees. Transportation cost for labor, equipment and the refrigeration components to the construction site. service vans purchase cost and maintenance. office and workshop lease cost. workshop and office equipment purchase cost. workshop maintenance cost. cost for purchase of the refrigeration components. cost for purchase of cold rooms panels and the inventory cost 2.7 REVENUE STREAM The business revenue will be achieved through offering the following services at a cost. Cold room design and construction service. Installation of the refrigeration and air conditioning system. Maintenance of the cold rooms and the cooling systems. Refrigeration and air conditioning consultation services. Sales of the refrigeration components and sale of shares to the public.
