MATERIALS
1. CONTROLLED PRACTICE (MATCHING ACTIVITY)
INSTRUCTIONS
A set of cards containing similar ‘if’ and similar ‘Result’ clauses are shared amongst each group.
Each group’s representative picks from the ‘if’ pile and reads out to his group, while the other players
in the group then look at their result cards and try to find an appropriate match to complete a first
conditional sentence.
If everyone agrees a sentence is accurate and grammatically correct, the players keep both cards aside.
The group leader then reads out the next ‘if’ card and so on. After matching all their cards, each group
would work to produce a negative and interrogative form for each completed sentence.
When students finish, in their worksheets they write down the first conditional sentences generated in
all required forms.
When all the groups are done, each group comes out one after the other in front of the class and in turn,
members read out one of the generated sentences each to the class who listens, corrects any mistake
and gives feedback.
