ELECTIVE 2 PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1. An accepted deadline for project approaches. However, the Project Manager
realizes only 75% percent of the work has been completed. The project
manager then issues a change request. What should the change request
authorize? Explain (15 PTS)
- In this circumstance, the thing causing corrective action will strive to
eradicate the root reasons of the project delay and prevent the scenario
from reoccurring. The corrective action essentially correlates to a root
cause that has been identified in order to eliminate the real underlying
cause that has caused the project to be delayed because it is only 75%
complete and the deadline is approaching. For example, if a project
has been delayed owing to resource restrictions, the issue of resource
restrictions can be resolved by bringing on more resources, such as
hiring more staff, to expedite the project in order to complete it before
the deadline. If the delay was caused by internal conflicts and a lack
of cooperation among project team members, the corrective action
will need the project manager to resolve internal conflicts and
promote a spirit of collaboration among team members.
2. The project manager meets with the project team to review lessons learned
from previous projects. In what activity is the team involved?
Explain (15 PTS)
- Risk identification because you can only learn from your previous
experiences. These risks are, of course, taken into account while determining
the scope of the project. Risk identification allows you to build a thorough
picture of the situation that you can use to influence stakeholders and make
better project decisions. Strong risk identification leads to smart project
communication, which leads to good decisions. On most projects, the risk
assessment process involves brainstorming, and the standard norms of
brainstorming apply: the entire project team should be actively involved. All
, members of the project team should identify potential hazards. There is no
room for criticism of any suggestion. Regardless of whether other members
of the group perceive a possible danger to be considerable, any potential
danger discovered by anyone should be noted. The IPT should document
and follow up on all potential risks identified during brainstorming.
3. Being assigned as a project manager in a mega project, you noticed during
project execution that conflicts arise in the team on both technical and
interpersonal levels. Being exposed in handling human resource
management, what is an appropriate way of handling conflicts? (25 PTS)
- Furthermore, active listening is a tried-and-true strategy for resolving
disputes among managers. It takes time to learn this skill, but once
you do, it can be highly useful. Listening permits a disagreement to
develop naturally by allowing people to disagree, voice strong
viewpoints, and demonstrate enthusiasm for ideas. Individual
differences are respected, and an environment of understanding is
promoted. Listening aids in the achievement of a successful resolution
by allowing an employee to determine the criteria that constitutes a
satisfactory outcome. When a manager is able to see and comprehend
the needs and interests of individuals, the odds of resolving a
disagreement satisfactorily for both sides increase. As a result of this
process, individuals will develop trust and a relationship bond,
preparing them to listen to the manager's demands as well.
Understanding the various approaches to dispute resolution and the
ramifications of each can offer project managers with a helpful set of
tools for creating a positive work environment. When correctly
managed, conflict in project management isn't always a bad thing.
Several benefits have been observed, including improved personal
growth and morale, improved collaboration, and improved project
outcomes. However, if conflict is not adequately managed, it can lead
to an organization's demise. The difficulty for organizational leaders
and project managers in project management is to keep the correct
balance and severity of conflict. Managers may create an environment
where creativity and innovation are encouraged and project goals are
met by applying project management concepts, understanding conflict
dynamics, and mastering conflict resolution techniques.
