Summary Poems Analysis Essay Do not stand at my grave and weep, by Mary Elizabeth Frye
Poems Analysis Essay The poem, Do not stand at my grave and weep, by Mary Elizabeth Frye presents a comforting view of death. The speaker of this poem has passed away and is reminding their loved-on es that even though physically they aren’t able to be present, they will still be with their loved-ones in memory and thought. The speaker emphasizes their presence by using different aspects of nature for example, “I am the diamond glints of snow,” or “I am the gentle autumn rain,” both present the image of the speaker’s presence when someone thinks of the snow or rain. The speaker is stressing to the family that they will have to change the way they think of the speaker and associate the memory of the speaker with an aspect of nature. The speaker seems to tell the family that by crying at the passing, it is hurting the narrator to see them in pain, which is evident by the lines; “Do not stand at grave and cry: I am not there; I did not die.”
