Introduction
Terms commonly referred to in Special Needs Education:
Special Education is a specially designed program of instruction for a child or children with special learning needs with aim of meeting
their unique special needs abilities.
Special Education needs is a restriction in the capacity in the person to participate and benefit from education on an account to physical,
sensory, mental health or learning ability.
Impairment-any less or damage to a part of the body either through accident, disease, genetic factors or other causes.
Disability-any loss or inability to function or to perform an activity in a manner or within a range considered normal for a human being.
Handicapped-a disadvantage of restriction of an activity which results from disability or from society attitude towards a disability.
Identification- pinpointing a learning difficult and other special needs a child might be experiencing so as to intervene before it affects
a child
Screening-initial stage of education assessment during which one identifies and confirms suspected learning needs in children.
Assessment-gathering, sorting, weighing of information for the purpose of making decision based on our judgment and conclusion.
Integration-participation of learners with disability in regular school programs.
Intervention- bringing the child to class then taking initiative measures.
Inclusion- refers to monitoring a child near their homes and community participating in monitoring.
