Among the questions I failed to ask is whether the patient had signs of discharge or bleeding from the ear. According to Kivi and Yu (2018), when a patient has otitis media, there is a possibility that there will be associated with fluid drainage in the ear. Goolsby and Grubbs (2018) also indicate that the discharge may be due an infection or presence of a foreign body in the ear. A second question that was missed is the possibility of the child pulling or tugging the ears. Mostly, and especially for children not speaking, an expression of pain in the ear as noted by Kivi and Yu (2018) would involve a child pulling the ear.
