An ectopic pregnancy is one in which the
fertilized ovum is implanted and develops
outside the normal endometrial cavity.
It contributes significantly to maternal mortality
and morbidity esp. in the first trimester.
While there has been about fourfold increase
in incidence over the couple of decades, but
the mortality has been slashed down by 80%.
