RE: AN APPEAL FOR FINANCIAL AID REINSTATEMENT
Dear Academic Committee at Savannah State University,
I am writing this letter to appeal for my financial aid to be re-instated. I express regret for
the absence of attentiveness to my academic work in the preceding semester, and I blame myself
for not communicating it my professors concerning my situation. Still, I would like to explain
my situation. I had two jobs which paid my tuition fees and my bills. However, last semester I
lost my job at Delta Airlines, which left me with one job as the semester was half-way, and the
pay was not enough to pay my tuition and bills. I had a financial challenge. Also, last semester,
my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she started her chemotherapy immediately.
When my mother was undergoing chemotherapy, seeing her suffering was severely emotionally
straining for me. Shortly after, I got diagnosed with depression, and fretfulness and anti-
depressants were recommended for me. When all these were happening, I broke up with my
boyfriend from a toxic relationship, and I developed suicidal thoughts. The doctors
recommended I seek counselling. All these situations interfered with my concentration in my
academic work, and I realized that balancing school work together with the challenges I was
confronting was too much for me to handle.
I completed my assignments; however, lack adequate time to concentrate on studying for
my coursework and exams entirely. I tried balancing my work, family challenges and efforts
with my studying habits to complete my classes with a distinction, but it never went well hence
resulting in a failing grade. My mom is recuperating well, and I got another job, and I feel
