Cultural Intelligence and Gospel Communication
In our multi-cultural world, there is a lot to learn from the church in Antioch, Jesus and
Paul on preaching the gospel in the core of cultural diversity. We study from Jesus that it is
crucial to out-grow the security of our cultural comfort zones to realistically minister multi-
culturally. Likewise, as we minister, we should be tolerant and have a sacrificial mentality,
portraying the disposition of inclusiveness and reconciliation. Jesus both taught and performed
multi-cultural ministry, and purposefully prayed for it in John 17. Cultural Intelligence (CQ)
skill is the capacity to work meritoriously across diverse cultural backgrounds. CQ Strategy
entails your high-level thinking ability that use the CQ knowledge to manage diversity. This
paper uses the CQ strategy from Livermore reading to apply Lingenfelter chapters concepts to
the present or future ministry context in sharing the gospel and inspiring and empowering
brothers and sisters in Christ.
Livermore (2015) offers a meta-model for creating a CQ strategy. The knowledge CQ
provides insight into comprehending cross0cultural challenges and differences. The interpretive
CQ is becoming aware of oneself, about others and the situation when interacting cross-
culturally. The perseverance CQ portrays our level of motivation, enthusiasm, and drive to
change cross-culturally. The behavioural CQ is getting information to ascertain if your plan fits
what you are witnessing in that culture. Through following these steps, ministers can develop
strategies for ministering in a multi-cultural congregation. Apostle Paul is an example of cultural
intelligence in the bible. Paul used both his God-given CQ and acquired cultural knowledge to
the work of enlarging God's multi-cultural work in 1 Corinthians 9:19-22. Also, in Acts 17,
Paul’s cultural intelligence is evident when appealing to the pre-existing thinking amongst the
Athenians of the “unknown God” when teaching the gospel of Christ. For ministers to actualize
