Andy Goldsworthy
Andy Gold Worthy is a famous British artist, (born in 1956)
Artist material practice
Andy Goldsworthy is well known for making art form nature, installation art, photography. In his art
work, he does sculpture making of rocks, leaves, sticks and other materialistic objects that he finds in
nature, in his artwork there is a lot of colour contrasts.
Conceptual practice
Andy Goldsworthy has to look closely at his sculptures because the climate/scenery really changes his
art work in the eyes of his audiences and him. He uses glue, pins, blue tack to keep the sculpture shape
together, his art work is temporary he does not take the art with him he leave’s it in the located area he
has chosen and goes to another location to do another artwork, also when he is taking the photo the
contrast has to be clear to see (center point, colour, viewpoint). Most of his art work is not on canvas it
is pictures, sculptures (that are properly not around now), his art works takes a long time to produce
(days, weeks and sometimes months).
Structural frame
Goldsworthy artwork ‘’Storm king wall’’ (2278 feet long) is the most recent/well known sculpture that
took him and others 17 days, they also had to collect specific stones to stack it together and hope it does
not fall over. He had the right to build this wall for agriculture traditions, his art work surrounded lots of
trees and at the end it connects to the clear water. Goldsworthy chose this pathway of the stones
because he thinks it is unique and pretty to view near the water, when there is a young tree growing the
barricade that Goldsworthy put around it will help to guide it, also to make the area newer looking after
any natural disaster that happened in that area. This artwork of Andy Goldsworthy was his first elected
art to go into a museum allocated in the united states and also his largest change of action to make it.
Cultural frame
In the artwork ‘’storm king wall’’ people can see that there is a few colour contrast, shown by the nature
(green, brown, white, blue) the ‘’storm king wall’’ was supposed to be 750 feet tall but ended up being
2278 feet tall, the reason being is because they kept on building the structure of the wall until it reached
its end (near an oak tree), it was a painful experience to do because Goldsworthy should be very patient
when making these kind of art, eventually Andy Goldsworthy will know that his art work will be gone
forever, his artworks were considered to be more alive because it’s no art that you have seen before
(people will think art is sculptures, painting, photos and more).
Subjective frame
‘’I take seriously the responsibility of leaving behind something that will last a long time’’ Andy Golds
worthy purposely leaves his artwork in a specific area because he thinks it is good to leave it there
undisturbed. ‘’we often forget we are nature. Nature is not something separate from us. So, when we
say that we have lost our connection to nature, we’ve lost our connection to ourselves’’. People don’t
have a deep enough understanding about what action they can take part in nature, we have to keep
