Introduction
A former socialist by the name of Benito Mussolini was born in 1833 and was
responsible for the fascist movement in Italy. Mussolini had a hatred for communism, it was
viewed as a “classless” with there being no difference between the poor or wealthy. In
Communism vs. Fascism, to add communism is often an anti-democratic, one party system
whereas fascism a one-party system which focused on traditional gender roles, idealism, social
Darwinism, militarism and extreme forms of nationalism. Therefore, Mussolini decided for form
a political group called, “the Fascio di Combattimento, or League of Combat” (Duiker, W. J, pg.
122) which pursued fascism. His dictatorship lead with no regard for foreign policy, he took
control of the Italian peoples’ liberties and was responsible for various violent social, economic,
and political movements leading to change.
Fascism
The fascist movement in Europe was very violent and had no regard for social liberties.
In (Duniker, 2010) we see how the Black-shirts, who where his supporters, threatened a march
on Rome if King Victor Emmanuel III did not give Mussolini power as prime minister.
Eventually naming him prime minister he now became the “head of government” and then
completely stripped the Italian people of all their social liberties. Under his Fascist dictatorship
he, “empowered the police to arrest and confine anybody for both political crimes without due
process of law” (Duiker, W. J, pg. 122). His dictatorship even had control over the press,
suspending any publication that spoke ill about him or showed any kind of disrespect towards the
Catholic Church.
