Healthcare Culture
Healthcare culture refers to the collaboration of a body of belief, behavior, and
knowledge in healthcare organizations (Braithwaite et al., 2017). Culture affects health, deaths,
and diseases, health promotion approaches, the experience and expression of diseases and pain,
how and where patients seek medical services, and their preferences of treatment types.
Braithwaite et al. (2017) explain that culture of safety refers to the behaviors and core values that
arise from a continuous and collective commitment by leaders of a healthcare organization,
managers, and healthcare workers to ensure that safety is emphasized over competing goals. The
primary way of promoting a culture of safety is giving health care workers the freedom to report
problems or errors they come across without the fear of discrimination or victimization. The
culture of excellence revolves around the people's way of thinking about their colleagues and
organization to the rules and regulations of working together and the practices used by every
individual to acquire excellent results in a healthcare setting (Braithwaite et al., 2017). A trusted
culture of excellence is created through effective and clear communication by improving the
quality and safety of service delivery in the healthcare organization. As a result, caregivers,
families, and patients are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. A culture of excellence
signifies that a healthcare organization's leadership and workers set and communicate the set
goals and objectives and ensure that they are effectively practiced.
There are principles necessary to build a culture of excellence and safety. Teamwork,
transparency, and accountability are among the principles of building a culture of safety
(Braithwaite et al., 2017). When healthcare workers collaborate and work towards the
organization’s vision, their safety and that of patients are ensured. Teamwork reduces the
