Pilots Recruitment Proposal
ORG 535
Purpose of Proposal
This proposal intends to introduce a new talent management plan for Pilots at Southwest
Airlines. To help enhance the current system in place with selecting the best candidates needed
for the role, I have prepared a proposal which will discuss recruitment sources, selection
methods, and training methods. This letter will also provide recommendations for performance
management and retention methods.
Proposal
Recruiting the best employees is essential to running a successful company. As you may
know, it is important to have the right people in place to do the job and to do it well. The
recruiting process can come with challenges in finding the right fit for the company. Therefore, I
would like to propose a new talent management approach to help enhance the chance of
attracting and keeping the right Pilots for Southwest Airlines.
Recruitment Sources
In today’s time, there is multiple recruitment sources available. However, to search for
the best candidates, I recommend using a platform commonly used by many people.
Social Media/Networking: Social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook,
Instagram, to name a few, are the newer platforms used these days to market and recruit
for job opportunities. These platforms are used around the world and allow diverse
connection between people and companies. According to Statista (2020), as of 2019, the
average daily social media usage of internet users worldwide amounted to 144 minutes
, per day. With that said, the amount of traffic circulating through social media sites can
help to generate thousands of resumes of potential candidates for the company. The cost
to advertise and market through these social media platforms will vary. All three sites
average a monthly cost ranging from $200-$2500 per month (WebFX, 2020). Although
similar in mostly cost the prices can increase depending on the Bid type. The following
are bid type options: 1) Cost-per-click (CPC): With CPC, you pay only when someone
clicks on your ad, 2) Cost-per-thousand-impressions (CPM): With CPM, you only pay
when 1000 people see your ad, 3) Cost-per-send (CPS): With CPS, you pay every time
you send a sponsored email to a user, and 4) Cost-per-open (CPO): With CPO, you pay
every time someone opens your sponsored email (WebFX, 2020).
Recruitment through current employees: Another resourceful method is by word of
mouth from current employees. As a suggestion, Southwest Airlines can offer current
employees with an “Employee Referral Bonus”. If an employee refers a candidate to the
company, and the person gets hired, the employee becomes eligible to receive referral
pay. Once the hired employee has worked a total of six months and remain in good
standing with the company, the referring employee will then receive the referral payout.
The bonus pay will vary depending on the position type. In this case, the opportunity for
recrement is Pilots. This position is top of the charts for the company, considering that
there is no air travel without good Pilots. Therefore, a good bonus payout of $1000 may
motivate the employee referral initiative and lead to the best candidates. According to
FAPA.aero (2020), Southwest Airlines hires an average of 28 Pilots per month.
Therefore, the cost of this recruitment plan will depend on the number of onboarding
employees through the employee referral process.
Recruitment from Colleges and Universities: Currently, Southwest Airlines focuses on
hiring individuals based on their attitude rather than their skill (Workfoce.com, 2020). In
