Positive Organizational Change
Over the years Starbucks has been a place that numerous people go to sit to drink their coffee
during the day and at night, especially a lot of students. They quickly gained recognition during
the early 2000s. Currently they have over 291,000 stores and operates worldwide over 24,000
locations (Official Starbucks Website, n.d.). As the virus started to spread in China, the chairman
and chief executive Belinda Wong after a series of calls made a decision to close more than 4,300
location which emplyed more than 58,000 employees. However, this year has been an incredibly
uncommon year for not only businesses but individuals as well due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Businesses around the world, large and small have had to figure out new ways to keep their
business and employees safe and not spread the virus. The pandemic has forced many changes
quickly, and below we will review Starbucks changes since COVID-19 using the Kotter’s 8-step
model. In the light Covid-19 pandemic Starbucks has started implementing the best practice for
the post-Covid environment in South Korea and China where it has reopened the cafes. The best
practices involve:
Maintaining Social distancing inside the cafe with tables kept at a distance of 6 feet from
each other.
Customers can order through mobile apps and contactless deliveries will be made.

Step One: Create Urgency.
There has great urgency given the pent-up demand after the lockdown and training of staff in
