Strengths
There are certain qualities that people possess that can either help them achieve goals
and success in life and there are some that cause others to fail because they lack the positive
qualities or obtain more negative ones. These qualities are also known as character strengths and
weaknesses. One of the main reasons for assessing character strengths is to use that information
to understand, identify, and build on a person’s strengths. Some examples of character strengths
are being careful, virtuous, and open- minded; and examples of weaknesses are stubborn, over-
thinking, and timid. Positive psychology focus on the strengths. I was asked to take a character
strength quiz and the results for me have shown that my signature strengths include gratitude,
love, curiosity, honesty and humor. Each of these things have helped me deal with all
challenges and obstacles life throws at me and pushed me to become resilient through it all.
Having a strong sense of gratitude throughout life has helped me cope with all the stress
and trauma I’ve experienced throughout my story while remaining grateful that I was able to
have those experiences. Being loved and loving others have allowed me to value the good
relationships in my life and allowed me to openly receive help when needed from friends and
family. It also allows me to be the best mother and wife I possibly can to my children and
husband. Being curious pushes me to constantly look for answers and grow wiser throughout
life, it seems like I’m always looking for answers on how I can improve as a person and the
many questions I have about the world.
