This exam consists of three parts and is worth a total of 80 points. The design of the exam mirrors the
writing sections of the AP Exam.
Short Answer: 24 total points
Long Essay: 16 total points

This section contains four (4) short-answer questions, each with three parts (A, B, and C). Each question
is worth 6 points.

A. Briefly explain one major difference between two of the following colonial regions before the mid-18th
century.

B. Briefly explain one major similarity between the two colonial regions before the mid-18th century.
C. Briefly explain how either the chosen similarity or difference influenced interactions between the two
regions.
1.) Briefly explain one major difference between two of the following colonial regions before the mid-18th
century
A. One major difference between New England colonies and Southern colonies was
their land. The New England colony had rocky soil harder for planting crops.
The Southern colony had great soil and was often referred to as “Cash Crops”
since the majority of tobacco and food was grown down south.
, Briefly explain one major similarity between the two colonial regions before the mid-18th century.
B. Politically, New England and the Southern colonies were the same since the people got
to vote for lawmakers.
Briefly explain how either the chosen similarity or difference influenced interactions between the two
regions
C. Since the two colonies were more different then alike the two can benefit from
one another very well. The New England Colony had the harbor and shipping
ports making it easier for trade of important things. The southern colonies had
great soil making it easy for them to have large plantations for food, and
tobacco. Trade between the two colonies for items they need or want that the
other doesn't have would benefit the two.

A Briefly explain how one of the following events clearly marked the establishment of a unified
American identity wholly separate from that of Great Britain.

o Declaration of Independence
o United States Constitution
The Declaration of Independence opens with why the colonies have fought to overthrow
Britain and chosen to take their place as a separate nation in the world.
B. Briefly provide an example of a historical event or development to support your explanation.
The Declaration of Independence, which was written by Thomas Jefferson,
states the reasons why North America sought independence from the British.
Thomas Jefferson believed in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All men
are created equal and when a government fails to protect those rights, it is
their right to overthrow the government.
C. Briefly explain why one of the other options is not as useful to mark the establishment of a unified
American identity.
The French and Indian War was more about the struggle between Britain and France. The
Indians from the colonies were involved in this fight, as they fought for their independence.
