place between the U.S. Cavalry and northern tribe Indians, including the Cheyenne
and two other tribes.

, Dawes Act: The American government tried to Americanize the Native American
population by offering land and citizenship to those who would give up their tribal
traditions and culture. The Act basically regarded this distribution of land to Native
Americans in Oklahoma.
Indian schools: Native American children were sent to boarding schools where they
would be taught the English language and learn to assimilate to the ways of the
Americans (white men).
