Purpose of Consultation Nurses operate in the role of consultant quite frequently, as a master’s prepared nurse one must be able to effectively and efficiently identify problems, ways to solve those problems and ways in which to help the organization achieve goals to improve quality of care for the patients serviced. The Consultation process involved a face to face interview with the nurse manager for the population health department also referred to as Care Management. The Purpose of the interview is to identify areas of improvement within the department to ensure patients receive resources and service needed to help them reach their goals toward a better state of health. During the interview process the nurse manager role was discussed as well as the vision for the department along with areas that require some improvement. Organization The Organization is an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). “The ACO is a set of provider groups, healthcare providers and insurers in which all parties freely assume financial and medical responsibility for Medicare patients”. (Roussel, L. A. (2013) The ACO used for research have 400 sites of care with 12 acute care hospitals including 2 Children hospitals, five level 1 trauma centers, two level II trauma centers, home health, outpatient centers and medical groups. The ACO employs 6300 physicians and 11,000 nurses. The population range from pediatrics to seniors. The goal and purpose of an ACO is to allow for care coordination which ensures the patient receive quality care and reduces the risk of medical errors and duplicate services.
