As it seems to me, using authentic materials are the best way to get learners into the
native language atmosphere. For example all kinds of tv shows, news, sitcoms are not
only help listeners to improve their listening skills, also it prepare them to face all kinds of
accents and dialects of the language. Also, authentic materials are an unlimited source of
idioms and expressions that are often used in native speech but are not written in
textbooks.
To summarize the above, authentic materials may not be included in the curriculum. But if
the teacher wants to help students learn and use the "real" language, then authentic
materials are the best friends for that.
b) Reasons for the selection of this text and the 12 vocabulary items. Rationale for
changes to text, if applicable.
Although there are almost enough C1 and C2 words in the text I have selected for pre-
teaching, I decided to not include there the C1 word”recharge” and check the B2 word
“charging” instead. The word is repeated numerous times in the text so it’ll be more
essential for comprehension of this text. After I pre-teach it I can be sure that my students
will guess the meaning of ”recharge” from the context. Along with the C1
word ”technically” because of its similarity with B1 word ”technology”
Also I picked an idiom “state-of-the art”. It is always good to learn some idioms on the
way towards mastering language.
