This exercise will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Exercise 1 - Question 1
Describe the general function of electrolytes.
Your Answer:
Electrolytes, or ions, are substances dissolved in body fluid that carry
electrical charge.
Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electric charge when they are
dissolved in a liquid such as blood. The blood electrolytes—sodium,
potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate—help regulate nerve and
muscle function and maintain acid-base balance and water balance.

Electrolytes are substances dissolved in body fluids that carry an
electrical charge. The difference in the electrolyte concentration
between the intracellular fluid (ICF) and the extracellular fluid
(ECF) helps to maintain membrane excitability and allows for
transmission of nerve impulses.

Question 4 Not yet graded / 1 pts
Exercise 1 - Question 4
Identify the specific functions of potassium within the body. (Hint: See
Chapter 11 in your textbook.)
Your Answer:
Potassium is one of the most important minerals in the body. It helps
regulate fluid balance, muscle contractions and nerve signals. It is the
major cation of the intercellular fluid (ICF).
