Unit 9 Assignment 2 Yahoo Inc: Strategic Management Case Analysis Final Paper Name: BUS 4993 Capstone Professor Capella University Date Overview In July of 2012, Marissa Mayer became the eighth CEO of Yahoo Inc. in its 16-year history. Of the eight, five of them had left the company just within the last 5 years prior to her arrival. Marissa’s rise to the top spot wasn’t without its share of challenges, including issues with corporate governance. These issues have been in the form of a highly publicized and quite disgraceful exit of Yahoos’ last CEO, where he has been charged with forging his resume, all the way to the activist investor who is looking to undermine the strategic direction of Yahoo, by bringing on his own board members to subvert her vision for Yahoo. In addition to this tumultuous beginning, Marissa needs to figure out what is the best way to reinvest the significant proceeds from the sale of Yahoo’s China affiliation, Alibaba. Which was one of the biggest investment blunders of the previous CEO’s tenure. Therefore, moving forward Marissa will need to figure out a new strategy where she can transform the company into one that can not only compete in, but capture some new market share. Marissa will be addressing these and other issues the company faces, as she devises a plan to accomplish all of this within a month of her being appointed to the CEO position.
