Critical thinking
The three parts of perceiving are selecting certain sensations to pay attention to. Organizing these
sensations into a design or pattern and Interpreting what this design or pattern means to me. I
will use looking at a rainbow as an example. I was able to know that I was looking at a rainbow
because certain sensations I noticed there were various colors in the sky. I paid attention to the
halo effect in the skyline and clouds in the air. I then organized these sensations into a design or
pattern by putting the different colors around the halo and clouds to see a pattern of a rainbow. I
interpreted what I was looking at by identifying the colors in the sky. Looking at the halo in the
clouds and the various colors and it became familiar to me in that I saw this object before. My
conclusion was is that I was looking at a rainbow.
The lenses in which I see the world biggest influence on me was and is my experience. I see the
world from a biblical perspective since I am a Christian, so I try to see things from the
perspective of the bible. I also see things through a lens based upon my past experiences for
example. My wife loves to go to the beach and look at the water and I am the complete opposite
for three reasons. The first is that I just do not like to go to the beach. It reminds me of dead fish.
The second reason is while in the military and deploying 8 times the ocean just reminds me of
deployments and going to war. The third reason is that my younger brother drowned in the river
and seeing a body of water just reminds me of it.
