Introduction
Culture plays a significant role in all of our lives whether we think about it or not.
Yeganeh and Su (2011) describe culture as “the collective programming of the mind, which
distinguishes the members of one group or category from another”. The application of Hofstede’s
characteristics allows an organization to compare cultural differences and similarities in the
various countries they operate in. This allows organization to tailor how they approach business
situations throughout different cultures and operate successfully. Cultural considerations when
conducting business internationally is a vital part of successful operations and must be a
consideration before conducting business (Moore, 2020). They key to conducting business
internationally, with multiple national cultures, is the incorporation of like cultural norms into the
organizational culture.
Role of Culture in HRM
The incorporation of culture into an organizations Human Resource Management process
is a vital part of the organizations success. According to SHRM.com (2020), “HR leaders are
responsible for ensuring that culture management is a core focus of their organization's
competitive efforts”. Human Resources is the face of the organization from a policy and talent
management perspective. Guidance is given from top management and HR is responsible putting
into policy. This means they are the responsible party for ensuring these policies and standards
conform to the customs and cultural norms of the specific geographic location. This is true not
